SIB101FC is a core subject of the Diploma of Travel and Tourism delivered in partnership between Flight Centre Travel Academy and Torrens University Australia.

What to expect
Throughout this 9-week subject, students will engage with 6 modules. This subject aims to build a strong foundation in business and professional practice within the context of the travel and tourism industry. Students will develop an understanding of how organisations operate and the skills needed to succeed in this fast-paced and interconnected field.
During the subject, students will:
- Explore the core principles of business and professional practice
- Understand how organisations function, set objectives, and achieve success
- Examine the structure and diversity of the travel and tourism industry
- Identify how tourism businesses connect with other sectors and remain competitive
- Analyse how personal skills, decisions, and actions contribute to broader organisational goals
- Develop a deeper appreciation of the business drivers behind the travel and tourism industry

Study Mode & Structure
Each subject runs over 9 weeks, designed to help you stay focused and make steady progress.
You’ll take part in:

3.3 hours per week of facilitated study — live classes, tutorials, and Q&A sessions

7-10 hours per week of independent study — readings, videos, and assessments
Across the term, you’ll explore six themed modules (one per week) and complete three assessments that help you apply what you’ve learned in realistic industry scenarios.

Assessment
You’ll complete three practical assessments designed to help you apply what you’ve learned in realistic industry scenarios — with no exams.
Assessments are spread across weeks 3, 6, and 9, and will include tasks such as online quizzes, reflective essays, role plays, presentations or similar that mirror real workplace skills.
