EVT101FC is an elective subject of the Diploma of Travel and Tourism delivered in partnership between Flight Centre Travel Academy and Torrens University Australia.

What to expect

Throughout this 9-week subject, students will engage with 6 modules. The subject will take students behind the scenes of the events industry — where strategy, planning, and creativity come together to deliver memorable experiences.

Step into the varied world of events — learning what it takes to bring events to life.

You’ll learn how to plan, market, and manage successful events from concept to completion. From bulletproof budgeting and risk management to designing audience engagement strategies and post-event evaluation, this subject gives you the tools to turn ideas into show-stopping moments.

Through case studies and practical projects, you’ll collaborate, problem-solve, and refine your professional communication skills — preparing you to step confidently into the fast-paced world of events and hospitality.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this subject, you’ll be able to:

  • Develop event plans to successfully execute different types of events.
  • Utilise effective marketing and communication approaches to attract and engage target audiences.
  • Apply knowledge of event logistics and risk management to ensure appropriate and effective event operations.
  • Assess event performance to facilitate continuous improvement for future event planning and execution.

  • Participate in self-paced online modules and live or recorded tutorials led by experts from Flight Centre Travel Academy.

  • Receive one-on-one coaching calls, assessment assistance, and student wellness support as needed.

Study Mode & Structure

This subject runs over 9 weeks and includes:

  • 3.3 hours per week of facilitated study (live classes, tutorials, Q&A sessions)
  • 7-10 hours per week of independent study (pre-readings, videos, assessments)

You’ll explore six themed modules:

  1. Behind the Velvet Rope – Your introduction to the events industry, event types, and career pathways

  2. Orchestrating Impact – Planning, budgeting, and risk management fundamentals

  3. Engaging Moments – Marketing strategies and customer experience design

  4. Venue Virtuosos – Venue selection, supplier coordination, and logistics

  5. Communication Alchemy – Collaboration, teamwork, and professional communication

  6. Showtime! – Delivering events, evaluation, and post-event review



 

Assessment

You’ll complete three assessments that mirror the real event-planning process — from pitching ideas to managing delivery and evaluation.

Assessments take place in weeks 3,6 & 9.

    1. Event Planning Proposal

    2. Marketing and Customer Plan

    3. Event Logistics, Risk & Evaluation Report and Presentation

Career Relevance

This subject builds the foundation for a wide range of careers in event management and production — from festivals and corporate conferences to weddings and brand activations.
