Through this program you will gain a university-accredited Diploma of Travel and Tourism through our education partner Torrens University Australia. In addition, the Sustainable Tourism Pathway also provides:

Work experience and job options

One of the best parts of the Sustainable Tourism Pathway is the exclusive access to our industry partners for work experience, volunteering opportunities and graduate job options. Here is a little more information about what you can expect:

Work Experience
Work experience forms a compulsory part of your industry focus subject.
 
As part of the Sustainable Tourism Pathway, you will have the opportunity to do this work experience with some of the industry experts in sustainable travel and tourism, possibly leading to future job opportunities: 

 

Some examples of work experience:

  • Explore new research into the impacts of plastic pollution on human heath with Take 3 for the Sea
  • Investigate new eco-tourism opportunities within current reforestation projects with Reforest
  • Conduct customer research to develop sustainability practices for Flight Centre Travel Group
  • Work in the sales teams at G Adventures or Intrepid
Volunteering
Students will be offered various options to volunteer with amazing suppliers that partner with the Sustainable Tourism Pathway.
This is a voluntary opportunity to get your hands dirty in areas of sustainable tourism that you are really passionate about.
 

Some examples of volunteering:

  • Snorkel and Island rubbish clean or conduct a water quality and reef review with Redcat in the Whitsundays
  • Fundraise for non-government charity organisations with Intrepid
  • Cook meals in a charity kitchen with FareShare and other volunteers from across Flight Centre Travel Group in Brisbane or Melbourne
Graduate jobs
In just 9 months you will be ready to start your sustainable career!
 
Our industry partners may have jobs you can apply for at the end of your Diploma. These jobs fall into 2 main categories: 
 

1. Travel Jobs with a sustainable tourism business
These are travel industry type roles in market leading sustainable tourism businesses. Although you may not be submerged in sustainability on a day-to-day basis, the company itself is a sustainability expert.

Some examples of these jobs: 

  • A sales team role with G Adventures head office
  • Tour leader position with Intrepid Travel, worldwide

2. Sustainability roles 
These are jobs that research, develop, plan, implement or report on sustainability projects, initiatives, events and communication. You will live and breathe sustainability in these roles.

Some examples of  these jobs:

  •  Business Development role with Take 3 for the Sea, where you will work to deliver activities to corporates and schools,
  • Corporate Social Responsibility Manager within a hotel, who ensures the company operates ethically and sustainably
  • Government Officer responsible for the research, reporting and compliance on sustainability metrics
  • Green Event Planner who plans events for hotels with minimal events on the environment

Sustainable Tourism Pathway is typically a 9-month program full-time (or part-time study program length from 18 months) that allows you to gain hands on experience with sustainable travel experts whilst completing your university-accredited Diploma of Travel and Tourism.

Sustainable Tourism Pathway FAQs

What are the Diploma entry requirements?
  • Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent) & online admission.
What is the duration of the Diploma?
Full-time study is 9 months (2 semesters) 

Part-time study is 18 months (4 semesters) 

What is the cost of the Diploma?
We partner with Torrens University Australia and the cost for this tertiary Diploma is $2,350 per subject or $18,800 in total for 8 subjects.

If you are an Australian citizen, then you are eligible for a FEE-HELP loan to pay all or part of your tuition fees. 
 
Please note that there is a lifetime cap on FEE-HELP debt, so know your balance before you apply. Visit the Loan Repayment page to check your balance.  
Are classes online or in person?
All subjects are delivered completely online! We do offer live tutorials, QA's and coaching calls to help you along the way.
What job opportunities are available?

Sustainable Tourism is a growth area in the Travel Industry. Whilst we do not guarantee jobs in sustainable tourism, this program offers students with ways to be practically involved in sustainable activities across the industry. This includes volunteer opportunities, work experiences, access to case studies and other real-world content plus discounted travel with our partners during your study and support to gain employment in available positions at the completion of your diploma.
