The program, working as a Travel Consultant & the Flight Centre Scholarship*

This program offers you an amazing start in the travel and tourism industry working for some amazing businesses. We partner with Australia's leading travel brand, Flight Centre as well as other major retail brands such as Travel Money, Cruiseabout, Cruise Club and the many businesses that fall under the Flight Centre Independents.

If you are successful in gaining employment with Flight Centre you may be eligible for the $18,000 Flight Centre Scholarship*.

Where will I work?

Successful completion of this program will set you up to apply for roles as a Travel Consultant. As part of this program you will receive assistance to interview for our program partners - Flight Centre Australia, Travel Money, Cruiseabout, Cruise Club and more.

NOTE: To be eligible for the Flight Centre Scholarship* you must work for a Flight Centre retail store in Australia. 

When do I start working?

In most cases you will be required to complete your Diploma before entering work with our partners.

 

What if I do not live near a Flight Centre or other partner store?

We'll work with you to locate the most convenient store and brand for you. If you do not live near any then we would ask you to consider relocating. However, we will treat each student case by case and find the best solution for you!

 

What if I do not get the job?

If your unsuccessful in your first application, our program team will work with you to explore other opportunities.

 

 

What if I do not pass my studies or decide to withdraw?

Our facilitation team and your Program Leader will work with you to help you stay on track with your studies as much as they can, but the Scholarship* payment will depend on your academic results, and full time or part time study. You can retake subjects at your own expense. We have other Programs that will assist you in achieving your long-term goals.

What if I change my mind and don't want to work as a Travel Consultant?
We have a range of other job pathways that we will assist you with if you don't wish to pursue a career as a Travel Consultant or you are unsuccessful in the interview process.

 

What do I need to do to be eligible for the Flight Centre Scholarship?

To be eligible for the Flight Centre Scholarship* you will be required to:

  • successfully complete your Diploma of Travel and Tourism
  • Successfully complete the Travel Consulting elective subject with a minimum grade of a credit
  • successfully gain full-time employment with a Flight Centre store within Australia
  • work full-time for a minimum of 2 years in a Flight Centre retail store in Australia within 4 years of graduation.
What if I resign from the job?

If you resign from your Flight Centre retail store job before you have completed 2 years of employment you will no longer be eligible for the Flight Centre Scholarship*.

 

What happens if I cannot complete the requirements/conditions within the given time frame?

You will not be eligible for the Scholarship* payment if you do not complete your studies, pass the elective with minimum grade of a credit, and work as a travel consultant with Flight Centre for two years full-time in a Flight Centre store in Australia within four years.

 

How will I receive the Scholarship* payment if I qualify?

You will receive a one-off Scholarship* payment of $18,000, in your pay from Flight Centre after two years full-time employment (within 4 years of graduation) in a Flight Centre store in Australia.

In my first 2 years of employment, can I transfer to another shop or another state?

With the agreement from your Team Leader and Regional Sales Manager and successful sales results, you can transfer to another Flight Centre store in Australia, and still be eligible for the Scholarship* payment. Note: Minimum 12 months experience in one store is preferred.

 

What if I don't like the job?

This program is about experiencing different positions and employers within the travel and tourism industry and we encourage you to take on the position with an open-mind and positive attitude to make the most of your time in that position or with the particular organisation.

Who teaches and supports me during the Travel Consulting program?

You’ll learn from travel pros who’ve been there and done it. Our Program Leader has over 35 years of experience, and our facilitators have worked for Flight Centre and other top travel agencies. As part of the Flight Centre Travel Group, you’ll also get access to exclusive events, connections, and insider opportunities across the travel world.

What is the Travel Consultant Behind the Scenes experience?

The Flight Centre Travel Consultant Behind the Scenes event is an amazing 2-day opportunity that allows you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at FLIGHT CENTRE HQ plus your chance to get a feel for and familiarise yourself with your future career as a Travel Consultant.

You'll get to meet facilitators, your program leader and other members of the Flight Centre Travel Academy team plus meet fellow students on the same program.

This event is held in Brisbane, and travel and accommodation will be at your own expense if you live outside of the Brisbane area. Discounted accommodation deals are generally available.

This event is jam-packed with activities from in person training and skills development, resume and interview preparation, hear company insights from Flight Centre Leaders, meet with Flight Centre Recruitment and more!

It is an optional extra and transport and accommodation if required will be at your own expense.

Will I need to relocate for work?
We’ll work closely with you and our partners to find the most convenient employment opportunities based on your location. If there are no suitable options nearby, or if you’re unsuccessful in securing a local role, you may need to consider relocating to access available positions.

 

What other support will I have?
 

You’ll be supported every step of the way — both in your studies and as you start working in the travel industry.

Your dedicated Program Leader will guide you through your journey, while our Facilitators and Student Support teams are available to help with study planning, assessments, and wellbeing. Once you begin work, you will continue to receive mentoring and practical advice to help you succeed on the job. You’ll also have access to ongoing career support, recruitment preparation, and networking opportunities to help you take the next step toward your travel career.
