About the Diploma of Travel and Tourism

The Diploma of Travel & Tourism is a nationally recognised higher education qualification, delivered in partnership with Torrens University Australia. It’s designed to prepare you for an exciting career in the travel and tourism industries.

 

 

How many subjects are in the Diploma of Travel and Tourism?

You’ll complete 8 subjects (6 core + 2 electives) covering business, sales, marketing, tourism trends, and a practical industry elective that gives you skills that employers want!

How long does the Diploma of Travel and Tourism take to complete?

Students can choose to complete the Diploma studying full-time in as little as 9-10 months.

Study + Work programs where you combine your study with paid industry work are usually around 14 months long. 

You can also choose a part-time option to fit around work or other commitments.

 

How does the semester structure work?

The diploma runs across multiple short  semesters designed to keep things simple and easy. 

Each semester is 9 weeks long, with holiday breaks of 3 weeks in between semesters.

Study load:
Full-time = 2 subjects per semester
Part-time = 1 subject per semester

How is the course delivered?
  • The Diploma is 100% online, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere.
  • Sefl-directed online learning modules with live or recorded tutorials
  • Interactive learning with your peers and facilitators 
  • Optional in-person networking events and industry experiences
How much does it cost?

The Diploma costs $2,420 per subject (8 subjects = $19,360 total from January 2026)

If you’re an eligible Australian or NZ citizen, you can cover the full cost with FEE-HELP (no upfront fees!). That means you can study now and pay later once you’re earning above the repayment threshold.

Can I study and work at the same time?

Yes! Most of our students balance study with part-time or full-time work. The flexible delivery means you can fit study around your lifestyle. 

In fact, a lot of our programs combine paid industry work as part of your program with your study! For example: 

  • Work, Study + Play Whitsundays - work with our partners in the Whitsundays while you complete your Diploma.
  • Work, Study + Fly - work with our partners in aviation while completing your Diploma
  • Work, Study + Events - work with our Events partners across Australia while completing your Diploma
What kind of careers could this lead to?
The Diploma opens the door to a wide range of roles, including:
  • Airline cabin crew or passenger services
  • Resort and hotel operations
  • Travel consulting and agency roles
  • Tourism boards and visitor centres
  • Tour guiding and adventure travel operations
  • Events, marketing, and tourism promotion
It’s also a great stepping-stone if you want to continue with your studies - you can gain direct access to second year of a Bachelor of Business with Torrens University Australia.

Entry to the Diploma of Travel and Tourism

The Diploma of Travel and Tourism is open to all Australian citizens, eligible NZ citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia. If you're not sure if you are eligible, please get in contact with an Enrolment Expert.

 

 

Do I need any prior experience or qualifications?

No! The Diploma is designed for students at all levels. All you need is a passion for travel and the willingness to learn.

Do I need an ATAR or equivalent?

No ATAR required! Year 12 certificate (or equivalent) or Work Life Entry (WLE) is required. For more information about the Work Life Entry please contact us.

How do I apply?

When can I start?

We have intakes every 4 weeks throughout the year (excluding the Christmas break), so you can get started when it suits you. 

Different programs start at different intakes so check with your Enrolments Expert when is the best intake that suits you!

Study Support

How is the course delivered?
  • 100% online, combing self-directed online learning modules with live or recorded tutorials
  • Face to face events available across Australia.
  • Practical components vary by program.

 

Who will be teaching me?

Every subject is taught by a Flight Centre Travel Academy facilitator. All our facilitators are travel industry experts and are passionate about teaching you! 

What support will I have as a student?

You’ll be supported every step of the way. Our facilitators and Student Support team pride themselves with ongoing workplace and study support. We will reach out on a regular basis to ensure you are well equipped to complete all your subjects, assessments and activities. This on-going support from your expert facilitators and dedicated program leader includes:

  • Assessment Q&A Sessions
  • Coaching Calls
  • Resume advice
  • Interview preparation

What happens if I fail a subject?

Don’t stress - you’ll have access to support before it gets to that point. From feedback and academic support to help you improve to one-on-one coaching calls with your Facilitator or assistance from your Student Support team, you can access help to get you back on track.

If you do fail the subject, you will be given the opportunity to re-sit the subject at your own expense.

Can I withdraw or defer my studies?
Yes. We understand that life happens.
  • You can defer your studies to a later intake if you need a break.
  • If you need to withdraw, we’ll guide you through the process and explain any financial implications.
  • Our Student Support team can often help you adjust your study load or find a solution that suits you best.
Are there exams or assessments?

There are no exams but yes, every subject includes assessments that help you apply what you’ve learned. You’ll need to complete and pass these to move through the course and graduate.

Each subject will follow a 3/6/9 pattern: 2 weeks of learning followed by assessment repeated 3 times with assessments occurring in weeks 3, 6 & 9 of the 9-week semester.
