How to: Sweet-talk Your Way Around the World

A big part of working in travel is, of course, travelling! As a travel consultant, you’ll often find yourself visiting far-off places all in the name of ‘famils’ (familiarisations), to broaden your knowledge about a destination, as well as the accommodation and experiences on offer.

Being well-travelled is a huge bonus when working in tourism, whether you’re a travel agent, a hotel concierge or a tour guide – and nothing says ‘well-travelled’ quite like having some foreign phrases in your repertoire!

When there’s a language barrier involved, an ice-breaker never fails. Even the most over-used pick-up lines take on a whole new meaning when they’re spun in fine French prose or sultry Spanish.

If you’re looking for an international rendezvous, take one of these lines for a test ride. They’re so corny they just might work!

French

Est-ce que tu as un carte? Je me suis perdu dans tes yeux.
Translation: Do you have a map? I got lost in your eyes.

Italian

Fa caldo qui, o è perchè ci sei tu?
Translation: Is it hot in here or is it just you?

Spanish

Tú crees en amor a primera vista, o debo caminar por otra vez?
Translation: Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?

German

Es ist etwas falsch mit meinem Handy. Es verfügt nicht über Ihre Nummer.
Translation: There’s something wrong with my mobile. It doesn’t have your number in it.

Disclaimer: Our translations might be a little off, but coupled an Aussie accent and a dazzling smile we think it will only add to your charm!
